Fr. Davids Tanzania Appeal...........(container now full)
In recent years we have been delighted to welcome Fr David to our parish, which provides him with a break from the hardship of life in Tanzania and also helps to relieve our priests here.
Fr David’s parish has suffered a lot this year due to torrential rainfall which has caused much destruction in the village – washing away crops, destroying homes, roads and causing deaths of people in the village.
In recent months we have been raising funds to help feed and clothe Fr David’s parishioners. We have almost raised enough funds to send a 40 foot container of humanitarian aid to Fr David’s parish. Fr David says that this is the best way to use the funds raised as it is difficult to buy goods where he lives. The container will stay in Fr David’s village and will make a home or a business.
We will be looking for Clothes, shoes, slippers, underwear, socks, Dried food: porridge, cereal, rice, pasta, lentils etc, Bicycles, Puncture repair kits, Hand tools (shovel, fork, hammer, nails, rake, hoe, saw etc), Wheelbarrow, Rope, First aid kits/medical supplies, large plastic storage boxes/buckets with lids, Crayons and colouring books, School supplies, Footballs and football pumps, Football jerseys, Towels, Tables, Chairs/stools, Large Water Barrels, Suit cases, Back packs, Reading glasses, Saucepans, Cutlery, Crockery, Nappies/wipes etc, Blankets, sleeping bags, Rolls of black refuse bags, Solar lights (Anything solar operated), Flash lights, Candles, tea lights, matches, Religious/Church items: Holy pictures, old Mass cards, rosary beads, prayer books, crucifixes, statues etc Non electric (vintage) sewing machines, Fabric, Thread, Scissors, Bed linen, Curtains (for fabric) – these will create an industry in the village. The list is endless!
The planned departure for the container is in September so that Fr David’s parishioners can have the aid on time for Christmas.
Items can be left into Ballynacally Community Centre Mon-Fri, 9.30-3.30pm.
Thanks to the generosity of this parish and neighbouring parishes €4,500 has been raised since last November. It will cost €6000-€7000 to purchase and ship the container to Tanzania. Sincere thanks to all who have supported this project financially to date!
